SAFETY WEEK

Lafayette has a long history of being safe, with very few serious accidents in the past 40 years. Our Safety Committee has really worked hard since their inception in 2008 to teach our special needs employees, as well as support staff and office staff, how to be safe on the job. Our newest program, Get Caught Being Safe, rewards anyone that “gets caught” practicing safe behavior in our workplace.

LAFAYETTE GOES TO THE BALLPARK

On July 28th Lafayette employees, along with family and friends, converged on Busch Stadium to watch the Cardinals beat the Diamondbacks by a score of 1-0. Most years we have scorching heat. However, this year was a beautiful, mild evening – perfect for baseball! Our crowd of about 375 had a great time. We were also joined this year by a few folks from Sunnyhill. Inc. Go Cards!

MANCHESTER CRAFT BEER FESTIVAL

On Saturday, May 13th the City of Manchester held a beer festival that featured over 20 craft breweries at Paul A. Schroeder Park. Lafayette had a booth selling soda, pretzels and bottled water. All of our volunteers had a great time and the participant turnout out was overwhelming. Lafayette received a generous grant from the City of Manchester from the proceeds of the festival. We are grateful to Manchester’s city administration for choosing us as a beneficiary. Lafayette has enjoyed a close relationship with the City of Manchester for many, many years and appreciates everything they do for us!!

LAFAYETTE NORTH EXPANSION CEREMONY

On Friday, March 17 Lafayette celebrated the long-awaited expansion of our Berkeley Facility with a Grand Opening/Ribbon Cutting ceremony. It was attended by several members of the Productive Living Board of St. Louis County, all of Lafayette’s Board and many Lafayette staff, clients, vendors and family members of Lafayette special needs employees. The Productive Living Board donated most of the funds. Funds also came from many fundraisers and a capital campaign run by Lafayette, in addition to generous grants from Mabee Foundation and Emerson Electric. The addition of 20,000 sq. ft. will allow Lafayette North to hire an additional 65 adults from North St. Louis County into fulltime, long term packaging jobs. The ribbon was actually cut by Lafayette’s original employee, hired in 1976 (and still working at Lafayette fulltime!) and our newest Lafayette employee whose job became possible by the expansion.
